Abortion

On January 22, 1973, forty-seven years ago, the United States Supreme Court, by a 7-2 vote, legalized the killing of unborn people. In response, throughout the year, and especially in January, your station hosts special programming that exposes and attacks this most unjust ruling, which allows a completely innocent person to be deprived of the most fundamental right, the right to life.

These unborn people have no means of self-defense. They are completely dependent on us: our voices, our bodies, our votes. We will not become inured to their plight. We will not forget. We will fight!!!

A few years ago, Catholic philosopher Alice Von Hildebrand wrote: “Abortion, i.e., the murder of innocent human beings, is intrinsically evil at all times, in all places, under all circumstances… the great nations of the world, now extinct, were victims of the immorality of their customs.”

Other wise and holy people have held the same. Alice’s husband, Dietrich Von Hildebrand, who fled Nazi persecution, said “A country that legalizes murder is doomed.” St. Pope John Paul II said “A nation that kills its own children has no future.” St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta said, “America needs no words from me to see how your decision in Roe v. Wade has deformed a great nation. Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching the people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want. That is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion.”

When the Supreme Court decided that it was permissible to kill an innocent person, it was saying, in effect, that man-made law was not bound by Divine Law, in this case, the Fifth Commandment. But the Great Commandment to “love God and love your neighbor” and the Ten Commandments are foundational to Christian, or Western, Civilization. So much of what we have in Western culture: education (universities), law (Magna Carta), hospitals and help for the poor (charitable religious orders), the abolition of slavery, is due to the influence of holy individual Christians trying, with varying degrees of success, to live by these higher laws.

The Venerable Fulton Sheen once wrote: “We of the Western World have been rightly proud that we have a civilization that is superior to others… We are superior because we are Christian. The moment we cease to be Christian, we will revert to the barbarism from which we came.”

The legalization of abortion is the most blatant sign that our Christian foundations have so weakened that we are reverting to barbarism.

But this is not inevitable! Holy Christian people can regenerate a culture. Dr. Bernard Nathanson, an atheist who even aborted his own child, and once fought for the legalization of abortion, repented. So too, did Norma McCorvey, the “Roe” of Roe v. Wade. Both became ardent defenders of the unborn and eventually converted to Catholicism. Their conversion wasn’t due to Christians hating and vilifying them. It was due to Christians loving them and evangelizing them: “hating the sin and loving the sinner.” In the words of Thomas Aquinas, “The very fact that we hate in our brother his fault and the absence of good is because of our love of our brother.”

Our work is similar: prayer, repentance, conversion, evangelization, speaking the truth in love, fighting for just laws, voting for politicians who will defend the unborn --- thereby saving Christian, aka Western, Civilization.

JRR Tolkein, in his Lord of the Rings trilogy, alludes to the importance of the battle in which we are now engaged. His character Aragorn exhorts his troops before battle: “A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down, but it is not this day! This day we fight!! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!!!”

Fr. Baker, our founder, once wrote that those who live by God’s laws will find “a basic happiness and contentment in this life, and life everlasting in the next world.” Please help your station bring this truth to viewers and help save Western Civilization, by telling others about the station, through your financial support, by offering to volunteer, and praying for its success.
