George Washington's Farewell Address

At this time of the year, as we celebrate the founding of our republic, it’s worthwhile once again recalling the words of George Washington in his Farewell Address of 1796: “The name of American, which belongs to you in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of patriotism more than any appellation derived from local discriminations.
